With a total weight of around 9 kg and an outer diameter of 170 mm, the bearing features an offset track and special spring seals for a contaminated working environment. The bearing, intended for a steel mill application, was to be used in harsh conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><em>Special full-complement CRB (with self-holding rollers)\u00a0with an offset track and special spring seals for contaminated working environments.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>After preliminary analysis, engineering confirmed the possibility of developing the bearing for the customer. BMI then developed the entire design of components and manufacturing process based on the application. Engineering suggested a radius of 3500 mm (for line contact) on the outer diameter of the outer ring after evaluating the application in detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BMI\u2019s production team proceeded with the manufacturing and development of the special bearing. Within 12 weeks, production was able to hand over the finished product, including development time for tooling. After successful testing of 8 pieces, BMI is now engaged in the development of 3 more special bearings for the European customer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MAINTENANCE TIPS: Alignment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Correct alignment of all devices in contact with the bearing shaft cannot be overemphasized. All components of the shaft must work together in correct alignment to prevent damage. A misaligned motor shaft will eventually cause abnormal wear of the bearing, leading to even greater misalignment. This can be an even greater hazard if a driving gear set is attached to the shaft\u2014not only can this misalignment be transferred to the gears, but it may also go on to cause bearing damage and misalignment in the driven components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along the same lines, a soft foot within a large bearing housing or pillow block can cause uneven bearing wear. Prior to aligning a unit, a soft foot check should be performed on the bearing housing.
